Challenge
Termomontažas was asked to carry out innovative insulation works for experimental tanker ships.
Solution
Bitumen is a viscous liquid that occurs naturally in crude oil. It is commonly transported at temperatures of around 170 °C to 190 °C. The heating is supplied via an array of multi-layered heating tubes mounted on the floor and sides of the tanks. To ensure efficient utilization of the tanks as well as a safe ship attitude it was necessary to apply insulation with the wood together so that the bitumen was transported without any waste.
Result
The experiment to carry out bitumen insulating wood was impressive as a lot of money was saved and nothing like this has been done before. We are happy to have participated in this one of a kind project and continue our partnership with the Riga Shipyard.
